Case Time Intervals

Avg Surg ToT (min, n)

  • Name: Average Surgeon Turn-over-Time
  • Description: The surgeon’s “close to cut” time, or the time between the surgeon’s end of one case and cut time of the following case that is in the same OR location.
  • Formula: Surgery Start Date/Time (case 2) - Surgery End Date/Time (case 1)

Avg Surg ToT - Flip Flop (min, n)

  • Name: Average Surgeon Turn-over-Time - Flip Flop
  • Description: The surgeon’s “close to cut” time, or the time between the surgeon’s end of one case and cut time of the following case that is independent of the OR location.
  • Formula: Surgery Start Date/Time (case 2) - Surgery End Date/Time (case 1)

Avg Anes Ready (min, n)

  • Name: Average Anesthesia Ready Time
  • Description: The average time between patient arrival to OR location and completion of induction, vascular access, regional/neuraxial procedures, securing equipment, etc. After Anesthesia Ready time, the OR team will typically begin their process of positioning, padding, and prepping the patient just prior to incision.
  • Formula: Anes Ready Date/Time - Anes Start Date/Time

Avg Anes ToT (min, n)

  • Name: Average Anesthesia Turn-over-Time
  • Description: The average time between anesthesia end of case 1 and anesthesia start of case 2.
  • Formula: Anes Start Date/Time (case 2) - Anes End Date/Time (case 1)

Avg Wo/Wi (min, n)

  • Name: Average Wheels Out to Wheels In
  • Description: The average time between leaving OR location and returning with the next patient to same OR location. This traditionally is measured by hospitals to determine turn over time efficiencies.
  • Formula: Anes Start Date/Time (case 2) - PACU Arrival Date/Time (case 1)

Avg Epid Ready (min, n)

  • Name: Average Epidural Ready Time
  • Description: The average time to successfully place a labor epidural.
  • Formula: Epidural Placement End Date/Time - Epidural Placement Start Date/Time

First Cases

First Cases (%, n, total cases)

  • Description: The count of total first cases and the percentage of total cases that are first cases.
  • Formula: Count of First Cases and Count of First Cases / Count of Total Cases

First Case On-Time Start (%, n, total first cases)

  • Description: The percent of all first cases that start on or before their scheduled start time.
  • Formula: Count of On-Time First Cases / Count of First Cases

First Case Delay Minutes (min)

  • Description: The total delayed minutes of all delayed first cases. For example, if 2 cases have a scheduled start time of 7:30, and Case 1 starts at 7:35 while Case 2 starts at 7:46, then First Case Delay Minutes would equal 21 minutes.
  • Formula: For all delayed first cases Anes Start Date/Time - Scheduled Start Date/Time

First Case On-Time Arrival (%)

  • Description: The percent of first cases in which the provider arrived more than 20 minutes prior to scheduled start time.
  • Formula: Count of all first cases in which Anes Start Date/Time - Provider Arrival Date/Time is less than 20.

Case Delay Reason table (first case, delay reason, case count)

  • Description: Table view of all aggregated First Case Delay reasons reported, allowing easy comparison of all reported delay reason frequencies.

Anesthesia Provider Efficiencies

  • Description: Table view of each Anesthesia Provider’s individual aggregated efficiencies.
  • Data Elements: Anes Prov, Case Count, Form Completion, Avg Anes Ready (min), Avg Anes ToT (min), On-Time Start (%, n, d), Delay Minutes, On-Time Arrival (%, n, d)
