A common question we receive is whether our application supports an **offline mode**—the ability to record data without an internet connection and sync it later. Currently, our application is designed as a **cloud-based, real-time platform.** This means a stable internet connection is required for operation. If your connection becomes unavailable, we recommend transitioning to your paper-based backup processes to ensure no data is lost. ### Why is a connection required? Our current "Cloud-First" architecture was a deliberate choice centered around **data security and the protection of sensitive information (PHI).** \* **Protecting Data at Rest:** Historically, storing sensitive data directly on a mobile device (known as "data at rest") posed a significant security risk. If a device was lost or stolen, that data could potentially be compromised. By requiring a live connection, we ensure that your data stays encrypted and secure in the cloud, rather than sitting on a physical tablet or phone. - **Performance Standards:** When our system was originally developed, high-level encryption on mobile devices often resulted in slow performance. To ensure our users had a fast, responsive experience, we prioritized real-time cloud processing over local device storage. ### Looking Ahead: Our Ongoing Investigation Technical standards and mobile hardware have advanced significantly over the last decade. Modern encryption is now more efficient, and the industry’s perspective on local data storage has evolved. We understand that connectivity isn't always guaranteed in the field. To address this: - **Active Research:** We are currently **investigating methods** to potentially introduce offline functionality in the future. This includes evaluating new architectural approaches that would allow for local data entry without compromising our strict security standards. - **Maintaining Security:** Any future updates regarding offline use must meet our high bar for data protection. We are exploring how modern "encryption at rest" can be implemented to keep your information safe even when a device is not connected to the internet.
